MONTANA SALES TAX ALERT: 4% state sales tax bill up for committee vote TOMORROW!

by | Feb 25, 2025 | Blog | 0 comments

Quoted from Lisa Bennett: “Rep. Barker from Carbon County has sponsored a bill adding 4% sales tax to offset property tax for K-12 schools “UNLESS APPROPRIATED FOR OTHER PURPOSES”. Please read this one page sales tax bill, scheduled for committee on Wednesday, February 26,  in Helena.

Unless they abolish property taxes, what will happen is spending increases will get paid for by both, INCREASING sales taxes indefinitely. Whatever original property tax decrease we get early on will go away as the years pass and people forget why the sales tax was passed in the first place.”

To voice your concerns, CALL IN to the Capitol Switchboard at 406-444-4800, or be in the Capitol in person Wednesday, February 26.

To testify online, you MUST register by 5pm Tuesday, February 25. How to participate in the State Legislature by testifying remotely:
