Jon Tester Fails Honesty Test on Cutting Spending
It seems Senator Tester has forgotten his actual record on the issue of spending. Tester, who has been one of the biggest spenders in the history of Montana, recently put out a press release regarding legislation he introduced to rescind an earmark for the Evergreen Water and Sewer District in order to use the $578,000 to pay down the national debt. Boasting he was taking the lead to shrink our national debt Tester said:
“We’ve been asked to find ways to pay off our national debt, and I’m the only one in our delegation that has. I take a certain amount of pride in that.” (Tristan Scott, Tester’s bill would return Evergreen earmark to pay down federal debt,” Missoulian, 3/4/11)
Really? Does Senator Tester take pride in the fact that during his time in office he has contributed to raising our national debt from $8 trillion to $15 trillion? It’s time Tester told the truth to Montanans.
Jon Tester’s Spending Record:
• $135 billion to bail out Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac
• $787 billion for the failed Stimulus
• $1.1 trillion for the 2010 omnibus spending bill
• $2.6 trillion for the fully-implemented Obamacare law
• $410 billion for discretionary spending in the 2009 omnibus bill
• $954.1 billion for discretionary spending in the 2008 budget resolution
• Voted to waive pay-go
• Voted against a Balanced Budget Amendment to the U.S. Constitution
• Voted against an Earmark Ban after campaigning to end the practice
While Senator Tester continues to mislead the people of Montana about his rampant deficit spending, Denny Rehberg has been working hard to cut spending and shrink our national debt. Denny Rehberg is truly the only member of Montana’s delegation with a proven record of reducing government spending.
In the first 2 months of this Congress alone, Denny Rehberg has:
• Sponsored and Passed “The Rehberg Amendment” to prevent funding for Obamcare, Saving $41 million
• Introduced a Constitutional Amendment requiring a balanced budget
• Voted to cut his own office budget by 5% and his Committee budget by 9%
• Found $100 billion in savings on the FY2011 Continuing Resolution alone, including $23 billion that he was directly and personally responsible for in his Subcommittee.
• When Democrats failed to even draft a counter proposal, Denny supported a $4 billion spending reduction for the 2-week extension.
• Voted to End Duplicative Government Printing: (Savings) $7,000,000
• Voted to End the Presidential Election Fund (Savings) $520,000,000
• Voted to Obtain Refund on UN Tax Equalization Fund (Savings) $180,000,000
• Voted for Repealing the Job-Killing Health Care Law (Savings) $2,600,000,000
• Voted to Eliminate Joint Strike Fighter (Savings) $450,000,000
• Voted to Reduce funding for National Endowment of the Arts (Savings) $20,500,000
• Voted to Eliminate National Capital Arts and Cultural Affairs program (Savings) $4,500,000
• Voted to Eliminate the Presido Trust Fund (Savings) $15,000,000
• Voted to Eliminate the Institute of Peace (Savings) $42,600,000
• Voted to Eliminate funding for tropical forest debt reduction (Savings) $20,000,000
• Voted to Reduce spending by 5.5% in 8 non-security subsections of the bill
