Michelle Malkin on Obama’s Phony Grassroots

June 24, 2009 · Comments Off

From an op-ed in the New York Post:

IF you believe the White House, 30 million Americans support a govern ment health-care takeover. But if you look at the funding behind the ObamaCare campaign, it’s the same few leftist billionaires, union bosses and partisan community organizers pushing the socialized medicine agenda.

Let’s connect the dots.

On Thursday, a national “grass-roots” coalition called Health Care for America Now will march on Capitol Hill to demand universal health care. The ground troops won’t have to march far. HCAN, you see, is headquartered at 1825 K Street in Washington, DC — smack in the middle of Beltway lobby land.

In fact, 1825 K Street is Ground Zero for “progressive” groups subsidized by anti-war, anti-GOP, Big Nanny special interests. Around Washington, the office complex is known as “The Other K Street.”

The Washington Post noted in 2007: “Its most prominent tenants form an abbreviated who’s who of well-funded allies of the Democratic Party. . . Big money from unions such as the Service Employees International Union and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, as well as . . . MoveOn, has provided groups like those at 1825 K Street the wherewithal to mount huge campaigns.”

Missoula Chair to Montana Chair

June 13, 2009 · Comments Off

Chairman of the Missoula Republican Central Committee Will Deschamps was elected to chair the state GOP at the annual convention in  Helena Friday.

Deschamps told reporters after the election that he is for “pro-life, less government interference, lower taxes and less government.”

He said he tried to be inclusive in chairing the Missoula Republican Party and encourage more voices.

“If you are exclusive, you lose the very basic enthusiasm that makes political parties or any organization successful,” Deschamps said.

The new GOP chairman said his top priority is to prepare an action plan for the party for the next 18 months for fundraising, operations, budget and staffing. Deschamps said he wants to hire a finance director soon.

The state party “needs some reinvigorating,” he said. As a county chairman, Deschamps said he has had some issues with the state party and is aware of the other delegates’ concerns.

His top priorities for 2012 are to get U.S. Rep. Denny Rehberg re-elected, expand the Republican majority in the state Senate and win a GOP majority in the currently tied Montana House, Deschamps said.

Congratulations Will and Jan from your supporters in Missoula.

Will Deschamps to Run for State GOP Chair

May 12, 2009 · Comments Off

Chairman of the local central committee Will Deschamps has announced his intention to run for chairman of the state GOP, the post being vacated by Liane Johnson.

GOP delegates from across the state will choose a new chairman at the party’s convention in Helena on June 11-13.

Neither the party’s current chairwoman, Liane Johnson of Cut Bank, nor its vice chairman, Tim Fox of Helena, intends to run for the top job.

“I have been very active within the state party and believe I will provide the leadership and integrity needed to expand the Republican legislative majority,” Deschamps said. “I am humbled by the support of my Republican colleagues and am optimistic about the road ahead.”

Deschamps, chairman of the state party’s Rules Committee and Executive Board, said he is eager to “begin working toward Republican successes in 2010 if elected.” He has been a GOP legislative candidate in the past.

A fifth-generation Montanan, Deschamps attended Missoula schools and graduated from the University of Montana. He was raised on a hay and cattle ranch west of Missoula. He and his wife, Janice, have three children and five grandchildren.

Deschamps has served on the Hellgate Elementary School Board, Missoula Consolidated Planning Board and Missoula Planning and Policy Board. A Marine veteran of the Vietnam War, he is commandant of the Marine Corps League and coordinates the Missoula Toys for Tots program.

Deschamps told central committee at the April meeting that if he wins he intends to keep both local and state posts.  Here’s wishing Will the best of luck!
